A new team this season, they have done an
outstanding job. Watch out for them in the future!

Little Apple Invitational - August 18-19th
The newly formed Stunners, our Under-10 girl’s
team, finished second in the Manhattan Little
Apple tournament held August 18-19. They
took their competition to a PK shootout after
being tied in the final five minutes of the
championship game. Not bad for a team
which only had two practices and a scrimmage
before going to Manhattan. The future
looks bright for these girls! The team is
coached by Chris White and Gary Krogman.
The team is trained by Jerry Stamm.
Select Dragons Mystify
Spectators At Little Apple Invitational
The new addition to the Topeka Select Soccer
Club, The Green Dragons (U14B,) caused an
unforeseen upset in the Little Apple
Invitational in Manhattan last weekend. This is
the first year the Green Dragons have been
officially under the Topeka Select banner, and
with this hard fought victory it has allowed
them to settle nicely into such a successful
club.
The weekend kicked
off with a local derby against Prodigy Eclipse,
which the Green Dragons won 3-0. An OG from
Eclipse started the scoring after a tight first
15 minutes. The second goal came from great work
by Kyle Packer down the right flank who then
squared the ball to Vivek Jadhav, who slotted
the ball easily by the Eclipse keeper. Finally a
great finish by Jamieson Wheeler from just
inside the 18yd box capped off a great result
for the Green Dragons.
he Second game
against Prodigy Nitro, who are seeded much
higher than the Dragons was extremely close.
Nitro showed their higher rank with good passing
and skill, but great defending and extreme hard
work from the Dragons saw them draw the game 0-0
and pretty much sealed a place in the final.
The final group
game against Salina Legends was again a tough
test of character for the Dragons, who just
needed to draw the game to make the final. Going
in at half time 1-0 down, due to sloppy marking,
the Dragons dug deep and fought out an equalizer
with a cheeky lob from Josh Ellis to make the
final against the Little Apple Soccer Club from
Manhattan. The final was played with great
spirit from both teams, and was a true back and
forth battle from one end of the field to the
other. Nobody could break the deadlock in normal
time or extra time, so it was a PK shoot-out.
The Green
Dragons held there nerve and won on a score line
of 3-1 with some great saves from the Dragons
keeper Jacob Cottman.
The Dragons face
their first ever test in the premier league this
weekend, so lets hope the lads do themselves and
the club proud this weekend, and the rest of the
season. The team is coached by Alan Burke who
has great help and support from Rusty Simerl and
Derek Ellis, as well as all the parents.
Azzurri Invitational - August 4-5th, Omaha, NE
The U16G Rockets won the Azzurri Invitational this
past weekend going 3-1-1 in the tournament. In pool
play they tied the Red River Charge, defeated the
Inter Angelitas, and lost to Dakota Gold Flames. In
the semi-final game they defeated Lou Fusz Red.
The championship game paired them up against KC
Bayern Munich, in which the Rockets won by an
impressive 3-0 margin. The Rockets showed great
toughness in having several players battle through
injuries and being shorthanded defenders. Congrats
ladies!
USA Cup
Topeka Select takes USA Cup by storm. The U10
Storm boys won the championship “playing up” in the
U11B division and were on the Minneapolis Channel 5
news. The U11 Arsenal boys finished 4-1 with a
second place in their division.
The U10 girls played
in the U10 Jamboree, winning all four of their
games. The club finished with a 13-1-1 record.
The USA Cup is an international tournament that had
teams from 21 countries and 25 states.
USA Cup is played in
Blaine, Minnesota each year on 52 soccer fields.
500 referees from around the world officiated the
games.
